In honor of Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Month, we recognize the inspiring journey of Dr. Jesse A. Lieberman, NeuroRestorative’s Medical Director for North Carolina.
Dr. Lieberman graduated from North Carolina State University in 1999 and enrolled at Wake Forest University School of Medicine in 2000. In 2003, while helping a neighbor, he sustained a complete C5 spinal cord injury (SCI). Just ten weeks later, he courageously returned to medical school, graduating with his class in 2004.
He went on to complete a residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Carolinas Rehabilitation, followed by a fellowship in spinal cord injury at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Dr. Lieberman then returned to Carolinas Rehabilitation as an attending physician, where he not only cared for individuals with SCI but also guided innovative treatment approaches and mentored the next generation of rehabilitation specialists. His leadership and commitment to improving outcomes for patients living with SCI earned him a promotion to associate professor in 2019.
In 2022, he transitioned to evaluating veterans for compensation and pension exams, continuing his dedication to those who have served. Today, as NeuroRestorative’s Medical Director for North Carolina, Dr. Lieberman continues to influence the field by overseeing patient care, advancing rehabilitative practices, and offering hope to individuals and families navigating life after spinal cord injury.
Dr. Lieberman’s journey is a powerful testament to resilience, dedication, and the lasting impact of compassionate care.
