Recently promoted from paraprofessional to teacher’s associate, Jalisa is often personally requested by teachers to work in their classrooms. She is dedicated to the students and approaches her interactions with them with understanding, patience, and a calming manner. One student she works with is nonverbal and had no formal system of communication. The student would become frustrated at not being understood and experienced behavioral challenges as a result. The NeuroRestorative team helped the student learn to use an app to help the student communicate. New to the app herself, Jalisa embraced it and used it with the student every chance she got. Now the student can independently put together multiple words on the app and continues to learn. Jalisa has been a key part of the team’s efforts to help the student find their voice.
